The Interstate Clean Transportation Corridor (ICTC) proposes a network of LNG and CNG facilities connecting heavily trafficked interstate trucking routes between Utah, California, and Nevada. The aim is to promote the conversion of heavy-duty fleets from diesel to natural gas in order to cut down emissions, reduce oil dependence and save fuel costs.
There is already an ICTC filling station in Ontario, California, operated by a private for-profit fuel company. UPS donated the land and uses the station to fuel its local delivery fleet, while other alternative fuelled-fleets -like trash trucks- in the community are also allowed to refuel.
“When you invest in one station, you are really investing in support for a number of different types of vehicles and fleets in the entire area,” said Rebecca Schenker of Gladstein, Neandross and Associates, a consulting firm that helped build the station, to the TV news magazine energyNOW!
