Lin informed that in the beginning of 2010, the government of Xiamen had signed a contract with Xiamen Kinglong Motor Group to purchase 300 CNG buses to replace 300 diesel buses in the city. He added that the project of the company also includes replacing gradually all 528 minibuses in the city in two or three years. According to researches, the minibuses are the main cause of air pollution in the city.
The Kinglong CNG buses meet the National III Emission Standard. Each bus is between 10.5 to 12 meters in length. Xiamen promotes the use of CNG in buses as a way to reduce emissions of the pollutant gases.
The city has also introduced emission records for vehicles in the city and issue certificates for vehicles whose emissions are within certain limits. As the Xiamen Environmental Protection Bureau reported, vehicles without the certificate will not be allowed to enter in the city area.
Currently, a refuelling station is being built in Guankou of Jimei District. Another three facilities will be constructed in Xiamen Island and should be concluded until August.
