Sacyr Industrial is the company responsible for the construction of the LNG import facility, which will entail an investment of USD106 million.
The contract, which was awarded by El Cayao Port Partnership (SPEC), consisting of the Colombian company Promigas and an investment fund of foreign capital Barú LNG, includes the design, construction and commissioning of the terminal, which will have capacity of delivering 400 million cubic feet of LNG per day. Once is regasified, the fuel will be transported to the National Transport Network (SNT) of natural gas located on the northern coast of Colombia.
This project, which is the first of its kind in Colombia, will strengthen the Colombian Energy System and ensure continuity in the operation of the three major power plants in the northern coast of Colombia.
The initiative will be fully operational by the second half of 2016 and includes not only the LNG import terminal, but the 10 km gas pipeline responsible for transporting the natural gas imported from the bay of Cartagena de Indias to the SNT.
