“The federal government understands the challenge Canada faces with respect to emissions from transportation,” stated Alicia Milner, president of the Canadian Natural Gas Vehicle Alliance (CNGVA), regarding the federal budget. “Encouraging investment in innovative, commercial technologies including local natural gas equipment for heavy trucks and buses is a sound strategy that accelerates the benefits for Canadians.”
Furthermore, a Calgary-based oil and gas executive will fund UOIT research for natural gas transportation applications. The study outcomes will include improving the design of equipment and systems for providing CNG and/or LNG and will have applications for use in cars and light-duty trucks.
“The future of transportation demands alternative energy sources and natural gas represents great potential,” said Boyce. “UOIT’s research endeavours will help us develop natural gas vehicle opportunities, discover CNG fuel efficiencies, encourage greater consumer investment in NGVs and expand the national infrastructure needed to realize the full potential of this fuel.”
